halloween snacks.

I'm hosting a small get together this evening (costumes required) so I have been racking my brain for themed party treats. There is no denying that Martha is truly the queen of Halloween and she has supplied me with a few ideas that I think my girlfriends and I can manage...

time warp.

i'm getting pumped for halloween...
and now thanks to glee i think i'm inspired to go see rocky horror at my local community theater..

wishlist: expensive.

Being the thrifty gal that I am, I tend to stear clear of more high end, designer clothes. However sometimes it's really satisfying to pretend shop online for things I would never actually buy. So here is my current un-thrifty wishlist:
Marc by Marc Jacobs gemini melton coat.
Topshop Angel studded Toe Suede Ankle boots.
Michael Kors chain-link watch
Aaaand I'll just take this whole oufit from J.Crew, thanks.

food matters.

Have you seen this documentary?

Andrew and I just watched Food Matters this week and I think it has changed my life haha. No but seriously, I have been on a serious food documentary kick and this one has been my favorite so far. I have been thinking a lot about cancer and how I want to make serious lifestyle commitments to combatting free radicals and carcinogens in the body, especially concerning diet. I believe the saying is true, You Are What You Eat.

This film is so inspiring. Get Food Matters on netflix and watch it!!

Octoberfeast

Two years ago we created our own holiday for an excuse for Andrew's immediate family to all get together, catch up, and eat all day (total of 9 kids plus 2 parents plus 3 wives= 14 ppl in immediate family). Octoberfeast was kicked off with a breakfast of amish creme donuts & quiche, followed by a trip to Village Thrift where I spent far too much money!
I picked up some pizza dough at Wegman's because I thought it might be fun to make our own "bretzels". Rachel & Sara here hard at work rolling the dough..
The expert pretzel maker of the group here...After we rolled the dough we brushed the pretzels with egg and sprinkled with kosher salt.
Tiniest pretzel in the world.
We also made a few batches with cinnamon and sugar, my personal favorite, Auntie Anne style! The rest of the day was spent eating more German inspired foods, playing board games & relaxing into a food coma!!

costume inspiration

I am loving these Halloween costumes from American Apparel.
Andrew & I are still working on ours..we can't quite seem to agree on one yet. Have you decided on a costume yet?

Have a restful weekend!

temptation.

I have a serious weakness for 1950's and 60's vintage coats, especially ones with a little fur.. And once in awhile I come across a coat that I am seriously tempted to keep, and the problem is that I often do..

Therefore my coat collection continues to grow, and I realize that I living in Mt. Bethel, PA I will most likely not have enough special occassions during a winter to wear such coats to! Often I will say, "oh I could wear this once and then part with it!" And it sometimes works..

I found this lovely piece particularly glamorous, and thus the dreaded decision..to keep or sell?
What do you think?

inspiration: scandinavian style

I am currently loving vintage Scandinavian inspired reindeer and Nordic patterned sweaters! They're so rustic and cozy, they make me wish I was sitting in a knotty pine cabin in the woods curled up in front of a blazing fireplace with a book. Here are a few that I've recently listed these in the shop.

restorative yoga.

Well friends, I am one book, two essays & observed class away from my teacher certification in Restorative yoga! I spent the weekend in a 2 day intensive training with the lovely Chris at Sundari Yoga learning all about Restorative.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, it is a therapeutic form of yoga in which we use bolsters, blankets, blocks, eye pillows, and other props to assist you in a posture. The postures are held for minutes at a time in a completely supported way which allows the body to entirely relax, creating deep openings while maintaining softness in the body. It's a healing practice, great for anyone who puts stress on their body whether it be mental, physical, or those suffering from injury. I am excited to now add this style of yoga into my teaching repertoire as well as my own practice.

fisherman knit.

I had been on the hunt for a cozy fisherman's knit sweater and I found one! It's a little big and I may end up passing it on to Andrew, but for now it's warm and comfortable on this chilly, windy day.

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in my give away! I will most likely be doing more give-aways on a monthly basis so check back often! I drew a name out of a hat and the winner was Lori!! (Send me your address and I will mail out your bag!)
THANK YOU and HAPPY WEEKEND!!

fall brunch

Hello readers! The lack of posts was primarily due to my being consumed of car-hunting and buying (more on that later, I found one!) However I spent the glorious Fall weekend in Philadelphia with my dearest girlfriends from college. It was Eastern's homecoming weekend, and Meredith decided to host a brunch for a small reunion of our girlfriends in her new home! As usual we made too much food and over did it with the baked goods, but we enjoyed every Fall treat possible! Pumpkin bread, apple bars, apple cider, cranberry muffins..

It was wonderful for all of us to be together and to see Kat and catch up with her about the past 3 months of her travels in Europe. After the brunch we stopped at our alma mater to check out the homecoming festivities and then went straight to our favorite coffee shop for iced coffees and lunch.
