vintage lingerie

This Spring, i'm having a little love affair with vintage nighties, slips and lingerie. Things were made so beautifully in the 1950's and 1960's and this lingerie proves it. Beautiful lace trim, gorgeous pastel colors and silky nylon fabric. Pretty, feminine, feel like a lady while you sleep ;)
These are all available for sale in my shop!

top 10 reasons to buy vintage

This past week I visited the King of Prussia mall and though I have been there at least 50 times, for some reason I was blown away by it this time. It sort of disgusted me as I thought about how addicted we are as people to possessions and more specifically, to our image. People are told how to dress and what to buy by manipulative advertising campaigns. Now don't get me wrong, I love fashion as much as the next girl, but I do believe that by attempting to only dress in second hand clothing, I am somehow fighting the masses and helping the environment...

MY TOP TEN REASONS TO BUY VINTAGE

1. Almost all the clothes you see in the mall are designed to LOOK vintage, but are not authentic.
2..You are not supporting child labor in third world country sweatshops.
3. You are caring about the environment by recycling and repurposing.
4. Though you will often pay more for vintage, vintage clothing was made well, and it has been able to survive decades b/c of it! Come on, your target shirt will only last what, maybe 2 seasons?
5. That piece of vintage clothing or vintage houseware carries really cool history with it.
6. Your wardrobe will be unique, you will not be wearing the same shirt as a few thousand others.
7. It connects you to individual sellers and other vintage lovers, and often fosters relationships.
8. Your money is supporting small business owners instead of the corporate giants.
9. If you know how to shop,  you will be saving tons of money!!
10. When you find that perfect vintage piece, that you have been searching for, there is nothing better! It makes shopping and creating a wardrobe much more fun and creative.

vintage inspired bridal shower

This past weekend we threw a bridal shower for one of my best friends Meredith. I am a bridesmaid in her wedding this May and was put in charge of bring the vintage decor (naturally). I brought dresses, shoes, hats and twinkle lights and did the place up!

I set up a few dress forms displaying vintage prom gowns and we scattered the gifts beneath them. Next to them was piano covered in old wedding photos of Meredith and Kyle's family.
White and cream damask printed tablecloths with pretty spring tulips. I bought the flower garland from Pearl River in Manhatten.
We made Meredith the best ribbon hat out of bows from her packages that I've ever seen!

happy st.patty's!!

Today i realized that i hardly own any green clothing! isn't that odd? I borrowed this skirt from my etsy shop! I hope you enjoyed a nice irish feast. I had to teach yoga tonight so my family's traditional feast is postponed until the weekend. The soda bread is my favorite part & i can't wait for it! I'm headed out to an irish pub with some friends to grab a beer, hear some live music & hopefully catch some step dancers. I leave you with a party tune..... Happy St. Patty's!!!

roller skating

This weekend we celebrated my friend Casey's 24th birthday.
We kicked it old-school by heading up to our middle school haunt, the "Big Wheel" skating rink.

We rented "quads" and shuffled our way around the rink as tiny children whipped past us.

By the end of the night we were rockin it. It felt so retro and was totally fun!

paul taylor dance company

I absolutely adore the Paul Taylor Dance Company. For years I have dreamed of dancing with them...I have attended summer and winter intensives with the company, and traveled into manhatten for daily classes given by the company members. Pictured above is Paul, and his principal dancers Annmaria & Michael (secret crush!!).  If you have never seen them perform, then you MUST go this weekend! It's the last weekend at City Center.
Click here to buy tickets. Tip* I have sat in the $25 seats & they were totally fine.

Prometheon Fire is one of my favorite pieces. The two lead dancers here Patrick Corbin and Lisa Viola no longer dance with the company but teach Taylor technique & I have taken many classes with them. This piece is actually on youtube in 2 parts. Check out part 1 below and get a taste of their style.
Or check them out at the gorgeous Paul Taylor Dance Company website.

upcycled vintage clutches!

I've been feeling crafty lately and as I sit watching episode after episode of my latest TV addiction "Skins" on Netflix, I have started a little project. I have decided to "upcycle" (i love that word) vintage purses. I've been sewing roses out of pretty vintage scarves and pieces of fabric, and attaching them to vintage clutches from the 1950's-60's.

Here are my first few prototypes, and they are currently available in my etsy shop!
I'd love to hear some feedback!

Zach Galifianakis

Dear blog world friends,
If you don't already love Zach Galifianakis, who hosted SNL this past Saturday, you should.
He's so bizarre it's sometimes creepy, and I love it.
So just to make sure you saw this..

Cheers,
Gwendolyn

boot stompin' cowboys & cowgirls

Hi friends! Hope your weekend has been wonderful.. I had a great weekend, it was beautiful here! But the best part was that i went LINE DANCING with some friends at a club called Montana West. I wore my vintage frye boots (shown in bottom photo) and they were the envy of many a cowboy...
It's crazy what a sub-culture exists here of plaid wearing, boot stomping line dancers, who gather every weekend to learn new dances and show off their skills. We will definitely go again and next time I will take pictures!

meanwhile, here are a few new items in the shop!
