newport, RI.

I am one of those people who long for New England in the summertime...I was born in Niantic, CT and then spent every summer vacation there on Saunder's Point, or in Maine. Therefore Andrew and I decided on Newport, RI this year, since neither of us have ever been there and we keep hearing how beautiful it is!
We are definitely going to take "the cliff walk", a 3.5 mile hike around the coast with views of spectacular mansions. You can also take tours of the mansions, which were once the summer "cottages" of wealthy families like the Vanderbilts and the Astors.
To save money we are going to camp in Jamestown, which is a peninsula only a 15 minute drive away. This way we won't feel guilty about eating lobster for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. Supposedly the campsites have views of the water, and I hope it's true! We are bringing bikes and will also take a day trip to Block Island.

Design Sponge has a great Newport city guide, with lists of good restaurants, but please let me know if you have any Newport travel tips!
